Launched in conjuction with The Design Kids and The Business Centre, applications for the scholarship are open until Friday 14 December 2018 at 3pm through this link.

This is the ultimate opportunity for an emerging creative to explore, refine and connect alongside a professional and established creative community. The package includes:
– a 12-month membership of The Roost, including a dedicated workspace (from January to December 2019),
– a 12-month mentoring programme through The Business Centre,
– a $500 grant to put towards courses or materials that benefit your work,
– the opportunity to buddy up with a Rooster who can pass on skills and tricks of the trade,
– help putting on an exhibition or show at the end of the scholarship.

Full terms an conditions can be found here, but anyone aged 18 or over who lives within 60km of Newcastle CBD who has an idea for a creative career is eligible for the prize.

This exciting opportunity has been championed by The Roost’s general manager, Bec Dujin. When asked what she was looking for in a successful applicant, Bec gave this advice:

“This scholarship is intended for someone who dreams big and is not afraid to work hard to get there. The successful individual will be someone with some serious talent and untapped potential. Sometimes all you need to get your foot in the door is just knowing the right people, so with a whole community of successful professional creatives around, it’s a perfect breeding ground for ideas to grow into something more with a little help from some new friends.

“A few other things we will be seeking evidence of are a solid work ethic, buckets of passion and a goal in mind. Being a creative community, we’re also looking for someone who understands what we’re about and has a good dose of go-getter energy about them that can set the standard for the next generation of Roosters coming through our doors, ” Bec said.

The winner will be decided by a panel of five and announced on Wednesday 19 December 2018.
