For Myf Garven, who celebrated her first anniversary as a Rooster this November, freelance life is about having the freedom to learn and to explore new disciplines.
The Roost is proud to announce the launch of our creative scholarship for 2020.
Started in 2019, the scholarship has grown in size, value and prestige for this year. One local emerging creative will be given an amazing opportunity to get their ideas on track with a package worth more than $7000.
2019 sees Michael Hearne, founder of Blackfish Graphic Design, celebrate his 11th year of self-employment in Newcastle. A member of The Roost since 2016, Michael has seen his business grow in leaps and bounds since starting.
As Roost president and full-time freelancer, Andy Jones has a busy life. His journey, however hectic, has been positive and his recent professional rebranding is a testament to how far he’s come.
Hailing from Scotland, David had previously been a member of Coburg House Art Studios in Edinburgh. “Coburg felt like a family, and I knew I wanted to find that sort of community again.”
It was with a teary eye that The Roost said goodbye to one of its longest-serving Roosters at the end of April 2019.
Photographer Mitch Lee first joined The Roost in 2010, when some of his friends from TAFE established the not-for-profit under the Renew Newcastle initiative.
The Roost is proud to unveil a scholarship programme valued at over $6500 to be awarded to one of Newcastle’s many exciting creative prospects.
